Tech Tips
Recently it has been brought to our attention that harmful attachments are being passed through the GRU.Net and Gator.Net email servers. These attachments with .PIF extensions and others are known to contain viruses. Currently GRU.Net and Gator.Net servers block some attachment types.
From this point forward we will no longer pass any attachments as per the Microsoft unsafe list. The list may be viewed at the following Web site:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;q262631
The vast majority of the extensions on this list are known virus problems and are rarely used. However, a couple may cause problems for some users including these extensions .EXE and .URL.
The preferred method to send legitimate files with any of these extensions is to ZIP them first. Please note that even when zipped, files will be scanned for viruses. All incoming messages are checked for viruses.
