Creating a new Gator.Net Account
Creating a new Gator.Net account is a two-step process. First, you need to create the customer account. Second, you'll need to configure the computer for Gator.Net dialup Internet access.
Gator.Net provides three options for you to sign up for a new account:
Online. If you already have Internet access, you can sign-up online at http://www.gator.net by clicking the Sign-up tab at the top of the page. As part of the sign-up process, you can download a configuration file that will modify your computer for Gator.Net service. This software is for Windows 95/98 operating systems. If you are currently an AOL customer, it is highly recommended that you call the Gator.Net Help Desk at (352)334-3000 before initiating the online sign-up process.
Telephone. You can call the Gator.Net Help Desk at (352) 334-3000 to setup your account over the telephone. If you require it, the Gator.Net Help Desk can also help you configure your computer for Gator.Net Internet service.
Creating a Desktop Shortcut
After the sign-up and configuration process, it's a good idea to create a desktop shortcut icon for the Gator.Net connection so that you can easily connect to the Internet.
To create a desktop icon using Windows operating systems:
- Click the Start button, point to Settings, and then click Dial Up Networking.
- Right-click the Gator.Net icon, and click Create Shortcut on the shortcut menu.
- Click Yes.
- A Gator.Net shortcut icon will be placed on your desktop.
- To connect to the Internet, you can double-click the shortcut.
Providing Your SSN or DL Number
If you sign up for Gator.Net service and choose to have your service billed with your GRU Utilities (consolidated billing), we require the Social Security Number or Driver's License number of the GRU utilities account holder. This is to confirm that you're authorized to add additional billing to the utility account.
If you prefer not to provide your SSN or DL number via the web, but would still like to have your Gator.Net account consolidated with your monthly GRU utilities bill, choose separate billing on the Gator.Net sign-up application, and then contact a GRU Customer Service Representative at (352)334-3434 about changing your billing method.
Modifying Your Account
You can modify many aspects of your account from the Account Management page on the Gator.Net Web site. On this page you can change your dial up and e-mail passwords, check your connection speed, and view your dial up usage reports.
Creating and Deleting Additional E-Mail Accounts
